Every now and then I get the question “is it a lot to prepare before departing?” to which I usually answer that it’s actually not. “It’s kind of just renting out the apartment, tinker with the website a little and then pack the bags…” Now that I look back over the last couple of days I might reconsider my previous statement. These activities, small and innocent as they may seem, can be quite demanding.
Renting out the apartment
So far, what I feel has taken up most of my time is actually trying to rent out my apartment. It’s also been quite a roller coaster between hope and despair. I’ve been in contact with probably around a hundred people of which 20 or so has shown interest and asked to visit/view the apartment. To make the viewing as smooth as possible I always set a date and time as well as share any contact details beforehand. Most of the people are honest and good at letting me know if they need to cancel but it still doesn’t always go as planned when some people decide to cancel a minute before the viewing or simply just don’t turn up for unknown reason. It came as a nice surprise when I looked through my inbox the other day and discovered a message from a nice couple saying they want to rent my apartment. Woho!
This means my apartment is now leased for six months and even if I decide not to proceed with the trip (why would I do that?!) I now stand without an apartment until late autumn. This is the point of no return!
Tinkering with the website
Quite early in our discussions about sailing “a little further” Dad and I thought it’d be fun to record this somehow. Not only does it help us remember what we have done but it’s also a good way to stay in contact with friends, family and others that want to follow along and see what silly things we’re up to!
The website and Youtube is more and more becoming our digital home where we share all that we do. The whole thing about filming is, in many ways, a completely new area to both of us and it will take some time to get used to formatting, cut&paste, sound and other things but wow we’re having so much fun!
Receiving likes and comments on our videos will of course make it even more fun!
Boat show and a secret meeting
As promised in my previous post this weekend was all about boats. Dad and I visited the boat show Allt för sjön in Stockholm where after 1.5 hours we were still visiting the first stand. See more about our visit to the boat show in the video below!
One thing that is very much worth mentioning but didn’t make it into the video is that we got to meet Klas. Klas found out about us and our plans thanks to a common friend of ours and through the website we received an email from him saying that he would like to join on an upcoming leg and help out in getting Caricia around the world. A couple of emails later it was decided that we should meet for the first time and what better place than a boat show? It was a very nice meeting!
Over and out,
