It started out as a dream. Not immediately, but after a few seasons with a Sweline 36. It caused the seed to take root and slowly start to grow. What would it be like to sail to the Mediterranean? Could we do it? If it went well, what was the next step, around the world?
It was time to start looking for the boat that would take us there. It took a few years and ended with a Najad 490. It was NOT what we expected. In fact, we had decided not to buy any Najad. At the time, I didn’t want anything but a boat with a aft cockpit. At a floating boat fair, in 2006, Najad would be exhibiting a Najad 440 with AC. We were invited to come and look at it which we did but we did not like the boat. We were then persuaded to look at a Najad 460 with center cockpit. Now it was exciting after all. But it didn’t feel quite right anyway. Just when we were going home, we were asked to look into a private Najad 490. With some doubt we agreed to it and…. Damn, there she was. Damn, because there is a big difference in money between the different boat sizes. The decisive factor was whether we wanted to spend a lot of money and almost reach or put in additional money and be completely satisfied. We decide for the latter. It is a big project to create the boat you are to trust, a little dramatically expressed, your life to. Not to mention being able to handle. That’s how the journey began. The year was 2006.
For the slightly geeky, at the end of this page, there are some facts about her, the boat, which was named Caricia. I’m going to come back to the name later.
It is a comfortable boat that gives a safe feeling. Perhaps the most important thing is to feel safe. Speaking of safety, we have invested a great deal in security. For the whole as well as for personaly. If, after all, the unwanted thing should happen.
I promised to return to the name, Caricia. Why she is named Caricia is because the boat before, the used Sweline 36, was already named Carrezza. We found out that it was Italian and meant caressing. When it came time to name the new boat, we had connections to Spain. After some thought, we decided to keep the name “caressing” but in Spanish, which is Caricia.
