Caricia Around the World

The Crew

Captain Tony

I was born in Gothenburg 1959 and moved to Västerås 1981 and have lived in different places in central Sweden since then. The current place of residence is Örebro. I have three adult children of which Diddi is one. I also have a grandchild.

The sea has always been something that I found peace with. Not always in a boat but just as happy sitting on land looking out. Regardless of where, the respect for the sea is great.

The first boat I owned was purchased in 1999. A Winga 78. A very nice first boat. The next one was a Sweline 36. Easy sailed and well planned. At that point my interest for sailing realy came to life. In 2006, for the purpose of long-range sailing, a Najad 490 was purchased. She was launched in the summer of 2007. Named Caricia.

She´s going to be our home for a long time to come.

Marine competence consists of a considerable amount of time on the sea. To some extent, one hand sailing (shorter excursions). I have a radar diploma, restricted radiotelephone operator´s certificate maritime mobile service, SRC, inshore yahtmaster diploma and the coastal yahtmaster diploma. During spring 2020, I added a safety education and the offshore yahtmaster diploma.

Diddi

I grew up for the most part in Örebro, Sweden with my parents and two siblings. I live and work in Stockholm, Sweden since 2012 within IT / Networking and software development. I sailed quite a bit in the summers when I was younger and still lived with my parents, I got my first Inshore yachtmaster certificate when I was 15. Of course, I wanted to continue studying and get higher certificates but at the time it was a lot of reading while at the same time school and later work got in the way. It wasn’t until just over 15 years later that I decided to pick it up again and build on my knowledge and completing Coastal yachtmaster, WS Offshore Personal Safety and various other topics with the purpose of sailing around the world.

I’ve spent more or less my entire life at a computer and Internet is something I use daily. To live on a boat and focus more on what nature has to offer is something I look forward to a lot. With time I’ve learned to appreciate and value other things in life than technical wonders or climbing the famous career ladder, so not only is this an incredible challenge to sail around the world but I also see this as my own way to disconnect and relax. My own way of living life.
