Dreams of sailing

Dreams of sailing

It’s sunday evening, 1st of March and almost exactly two months until we move onboard Caricia, not that I’m keeping track of the time or anything… 🙂

I’m just sitting here dreaming about what it’ll be, sailing. All the things that we will do, see and experience. Waving goodbye at the home port, crossing the Swedish border over to Denmark, arriving at the other side of the Kiel canal, cross the bay of Biscay and further on to the Mediterranean. There will be many and frequent highlights. I think the entire trip will be a bit like walking into a whole new world where everything is new, exciting and different. It’s no overstatement when I say I feel butterflies in my stomach, what an amazing adventure we have ahead of us!

Coffee before exam

To make a good day even better I took an SRC (radio certificate) exam today which means I am now allowed to operate the onboard VHF radio. VHF radio is used a lot at sea for communication between ships, with harbors, bridge keeper, traffic centrals, etc. It’s also a very valuable tool in case something was to happen as you can quickly and easily reach all nearby ships as well as rescue teams. Being able to operate a VHF radio is good from a safety perspective but it also make everyday life a lot easier when you’re able to communicate with a new harbor you never visited before.

I also “accidentaly” started packing today. First item, the book Dra dit pepparn växer (swedish), is now in a moving box ready to be transported onboard what will be our home half of this year! It might seem a bit too ambitious to start packing with two months left, and I agree. It’s just that when you’re walking around at home dreaming about sailing, keeping your fingers in control is difficult. Woops suddenly a moving box jumped out all on its own – and the packing is on! There is quite a lot that need to be packed however, not just stuff that I need onboard but also stuff that I will put in storage while renting out my apartment, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem keeping busy 😉

Next weekend it’s boat show time. My Dad and I will visit the Swedish boat show Allt för sjön in Stockholm to find accessories and other gadgets we could need on our trip, and likely some things we probably won’t need.
